Sweden (particularly Gothenburg) has been an incredible source of disco, house, electro, indie, and shoegaze music over the last decade (see: Air France, jj, The Tough Alliance, Sally Shapiro, Pacific!, The Sound of Arrows, Axwell, Avicii, Eric Pyrdz, etc). However, with acts like Xuman and Tesla Boy, Russia’s been holding its own in the industry. Panic is the catchiest song I’ve heard all year, and has the potential to reach Lisztomania-status (although it probably never will. When was the last time a Russian artist broke out into the scene?). With a cheesy bass intro, a melodic synth solo in the same vein as the famed intro of Better Off Alone, and a instantly memorable chorus, it’s hard to go wrong. RIYL: Miami Horror, Phoenix, doing the pointing-your-finger-at-the-sky dance.
